Nettle is used for:

Hay fever symptoms, including sneezing and itching; urinary tract infections; kidney stones; and to increase urination. It also claims use as a remedy for premenstrual bloating and excessive menstrual bleeding. Nettle use is claimed to help relieve the early symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). It may also have other uses. Check with your pharmacist for more details regarding the particular brand you use.

Nettle is an herbal product. It works by reducing inflammation.

Do NOT use Nettle if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Nettle
  • you are pregnant
  • you have a history of retaining fluid (eg, swelling of arms or legs), or heart or kidney conditions

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Nettle :

Some medical conditions may interact with Nettle . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have blood pressure problems or diabetes


  • Diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) because actions and side effects may be increased by Nettle

How to use Nettle :

Use Nettle as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Use as directed on the package, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
  • If you miss taking a dose of Nettle for 1 or more days, there is no cause for concern. If your doctor recommended that you take it, try to remember your dose every day.

  • Drink plenty of fluids if you are taking nettle as a diuretic.

  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Do not use this product if you are pregnant. Do not breast-feed while using this product.

Possible side effects of Nettle :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Burning and stinging if applied to skin; decrease in amount of urine; diarrhea; menstrual problems; upset stomach.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

Proper storage of Nettle :

Store at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and light unless otherwise directed on the package label. Do not store in the bathroom. Most herbal products are not in childproof containers. Keep Nettle out of the reach of children and away from pets.
