Docusate/Sennosides is used for:

Relieving occasional constipation (irregularity).

Docusate/Sennosides is a stool softener and laxative combination. It works by softening the stool and increasing water content to allow easier passage of the stool.

Do NOT use Docusate/Sennosides if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Docusate/Sennosides
  • you have appendicitis, fecal impaction, blood in the stool, or a blockage of your bowel, or you have recently had abdominal surgery
  • you are taking mineral oil or you have been using a laxative for longer than 1 week

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Docusate/Sennosides :

Some medical conditions may interact with Docusate/Sennosides . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have congestive heart failure, stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting, or if you notice a sudden change in bowel movements that continues for longer than 2 weeks

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Docusate/Sennosides . However, no specific interactions with Docusate/Sennosides are known at this time.

Ask your health care provider if Docusate/Sennosides may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Docusate/Sennosides :

Use Docusate/Sennosides as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Take Docusate/Sennosides at bedtime unless directed otherwise by your health care provider.
  • If you miss taking a dose of Docusate/Sennosides for 1 or more days, there is no cause for concern. If your doctor recommended that you take it, try to remember your dose every day.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Docusate/Sennosides .

Important safety information:

  • Do not use Docusate/Sennosides if the safety seal is broken or missing.
  • Stop using Docusate/Sennosides and contact your health care provider if you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after using Docusate/Sennosides . These may be signs of a serious condition.
  • Docusate/Sennosides should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 6 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Docusate/Sennosides while you are pregnant. It is not known if Docusate/Sennosides is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Docusate/Sennosides , check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Docusate/Sennosides :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with this product. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry stools; severe stomach pain.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include abdominal cramps; diarrhea.

Proper storage of Docusate/Sennosides :

Store Docusate/Sennosides at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Docusate/Sennosides out of the reach of children and away from pets.
